Public engagement for Phase 2A: West Bradford Junctions Improvement Scheme took place from 8 July - 5 August 2019. The engagement outcome report can be download here.

The information below was presented during the public engagement period in summer 2019.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bradford Council, in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, is looking to make improvements to three junctions to reduce congestion for the benefit of all road users.

Collectively, the schemes focus on bringing improvements to the A6177 Outer Ring Road to the west of Bradford.

Bradford Council carried out
Phase 1 of public engagement in early 2019, and is now able to demonstrate how the proposed design has progressed for Great Horton Road / Horton Grange Road (Phase 2A). The Council has successfully submitted an outline business case to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the full business case in now being developed as part of the process towards scheme delivery.

Great Horton Road / Horton Grange Road Junction:

The following was proposed for phase 1:

  • A new road between Horton Park Avenue/Cecil Avenue junction and All Saints Road/Dirkhill Road junction, with priority junctions at both ends. The new link is to allow movements to bypass the Great Horton Road/Horton Grange Road/All Saints Road junction.
  • Traffic signals at the Great Horton Road/Horton Park Avenue junction, with two lanes inbound to the junction of Great Horton Road/Horton Grange Road/All Saints Road.
  • Changing All Saints Road to a one way road southbound between Great Horton Road and Turner Place. This will reduce traffic conflicts, whilst increasing capacity. The right turn from Great Horton Road into All Saints Road is prevented with right turning traffic using Horton Park Avenue. Improvements are to be made for cycling and walking as part of the design.

Some further additional changes are now necessary following more detailed transport modelling work. Details are also available on the revised
map:

  • Left turn slip added to improve junction capacity and maintain safe business access.
  • Proposed new crossing moved away from junction, allowing improved access to shops and bus stops from housing areas.
  • Additional retaining wall required.

Whilst we are specifically engaging on this junction, Bradford Council will be looking at traffic priorities in the wider area.
