The information below was presented during the public engagement (12 October - 8 November 2020).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (CBMDC), in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, is looking to make improvements to three junctions to reduce congestion for the benefit of all road users and would like your feedback on the proposed improvements.

As part of the wider West Bradford Junctions Improvement scheme, Bradford Council in partnership with West Yorkshire Combined Authority is proposing to implement major highway works around the Great Horton Road/Horton Grange Road/Horton Park Avenue junctions with construction works currently programmed to commence in October 2021.

Phase 1 (opens in a new window) public engagement exercise on the scheme was carried out in early 2019.

A further engagement on the Great Horton Road / Horton Grange Road junction (Phase 2A) (opens in a new window) was carried out in July 2019 and comments received at that time were considered during the detailed design process.

The plan (opens in a new window) illustrates the proposals, highlighting the proposed changes to the existing highway network associated with the scheme.

These changes are summarised below:

  • New link road between All Saints Road and Horton Park Avenue with a new roundabout at the Horton Park Avenue junction
  • New traffic signals at the junction of Great Horton Road and Horton Park Avenue
  • Relocated pedestrian crossing on Great Horton Road
  • New central refuges to improve pedestrian crossing facilities
  • Shared cycleway/footway on a section of Horton Park Avenue
  • Extensive landscaping along Horton Park Avenue and the new link road
  • Improvements to the car park on Horton Park Avenue for public use

One of the main aims of the scheme is to ease congestion and improve traffic management. As such, it is also proposed to introduce or amend existing Traffic Regulation Orders in various locations, and these are listed below:

  • No right turn movements from Great Horton Road into All Saints Road
  • No left turn movements for HGV’s from Great Horton Road into All Saints Road
  • One way only section between Great Horton Road and Turner Place
  • One way system on Turner Place and Dirkhill Street
  • No Waiting or Loading at any time outside nos. 215 -275, nos. 277-285 and nos. 426-442 Great Horton Road, nos. 20-24 Horton Park Avenue, nos.180-194 and nos. 181-187 Dirkhill Road and no.17 All Saints Road.
