What are the benefits?

The Travel Centre has been relocated upstairs to the upper concourse to make it quicker and easier to get to for those catching buses.

The main aims are to give a more attractive travel centre, to reduce queues and waiting times, to modernise the services available, to improve available technology and to improve energy efficiency and reduce the associated carbon footprint.

The new Travel Centre also has improved accessibility with the inclusion of hearing loops, removal of doorways in the customer area, relocation upstairs and improved accessibility on the staff side.

    How was the refurbishment funded?

The scheme was funded by the West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan

    How much did it cost?

The construction of the Travel Centre at Bradford Interchange cost £500,000.

The overall costs to date for the scheme, which includes the development of the design of the Travel Centre at Huddersfield Bus Station, is £785,000.

The wider Transforming Travel Centres project includes the Travel Centre at Huddersfield Bus Station and the plans for this travel centre were included in the original consultation.

What will happen with the old site?

This is still to be determined, but various options are still being considered

What are self-service screens and how do they work?

There are ticket vending machines available outside the Travel Centre where you can buy tickets yourself to travel.

Within the Travel Centre, there is a real time information screen, which tells you up-to-date travel information to keep you informed.

Soon, a digital information point screen will also be installed which have a map function, journey planner and the function to search departures. There will be staff on site during Travel Centre opening hours to help you with these screens should you need any assistance.

When is the travel centre open?

The times when staff is available are the same as before:

    Monday: 8:30 - 17:30

    Tuesday: 09:00 - 17:30

    Wednesday to Friday: 8:30 – 17:30

    Saturday: 09:00 – 16:30

The customer area with the self-serve screens and timetables is open for all hours the bus station is open.

Why are we engaging on the new travel centre?

We are engaging following an initial round of consultation in 2020. This will allow us to evaluate how much of a success the project has been.

We will use your feedback to inform the development of other Travel Centres in the future.
