  • Share Hi We recently attended a walk through representing visually impaired and disabled residents to which we made known our concerns re: safety and desirability/access issues of your plans. Imagine our surprise when we see you've almost totally ignored what we raised! Are we second class citizens? Portholme road, you're removing the "steep and dangerous steps" and replacing with a tunnel. Fine, although there's an existing route through the existing arch! Okay now you will have removed the only access on to west side of bridge connecting prospect centre and homebargains to south of selby. Are you going to instate the alternative route. i.e. footpath to the base of the bridge? We also note you've disqualified people with mobility issues from accessing the station through the park!..Are you not going to put in a ramp for wheelchair access? We also note not one controlled crossing in the whole of this plan, and mitigation of traffic speed watered down by installing speed tables instead of bumps. My suggestion, do the opposite! Have a look at sainsbury speed bumps, they work and nobody complains. I honestly believ you have looked at this from point of view of motorists when your brief should be to discourage driving in favour of pedestrian/cycling. Believe me walking in selby is difficult enough without this proposal, as I said at the time you'll never discourage driving unless you improve access from the districts, N,S,E and west. Please don't use the "there's no money" argument, you have over £1million collected by SDC under CIL specifically for infrastructure...where are the improvements? on Facebook Share Hi We recently attended a walk through representing visually impaired and disabled residents to which we made known our concerns re: safety and desirability/access issues of your plans. Good morning,

Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your comments, and thank you for getting in touch about the Selby Station Gateway scheme.

We are considering all of these comments and welcome further opportunity to discuss with affected groups. The proposals will be developed in more detail during the next design stage and we are keen to ensure that all routes remain accessible to all, including the new connection between Portholme Road, the station and Bawtry Road and road crossings. To clarify, the plaza designs do include ramped access into Selby Park. All funding options, including CIL contributions, have been explored.

    Good afternoon,

Yes, the designs mean that there will be an advanced stop line for cyclist so they can re-join the road and turn right. It is proposed to alter the signal sequencing to provide better timings.
