Moorthorpe Rail Station Car Park
West Yorkshire Combined Authority and train operator Northern are increasing parking provision at Moorthorpe Rail Station.

Moorthorpe station currently has 45 car parking spaces and is well used by rail users. Working with our partners at Northern Trains and Network Rail, this project aims to improve the availability of parking by increasing the number of spaces.
The Moorthorpe scheme will provide:
- Approximately 42 additional car parking spaces, bringing the total to approximately 87 which includes accessible parking.
- New low energy LED lighting, and enhanced drainage.
Alternative arrangements during the works
The car park will remain partially open for rail users, with a limited number of spaces available for use. Alternatively, the car park at South Elmsall (0.9 miles away) is also available for use. The car park has 107 spaces, including 6 accessible spaces.
View a map showing the bus, walking, cycling and car route between Moorthorpe and South Elmsall station car parks. The route between the two stations is along the B6422 Barnsley Road, and is a 20 minute walk, 6 minute cycle, 5 minute bus or 3 minute car journey.
The train service will be unaffected during this time and run to the normal timetable.
Bus services that people can travel to the station are;
36 (hourly)
496 (every 20 mins)
249 (hourly)
(Bus Stop 450 17058)
(Bus Stop 450 17059)
Cycle storage is also available at the station.
Rail Park and Ride Programme
The Moorthorpe car park scheme is one of 9 projects within Phase 1 of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Rail Park and Ride Programme, which has been designed to increase station parking and provide people with increased access to train services. In turn, this will help reduce congestion, improve local air quality and enhance people’s access to jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as leisure activities.
