FAQs
The proposals
Why was Guiseley station chosen?
The assessment and selection of Guiseley station as the location for a large-scale intervention to provide step-free access to platforms was undertaken in collaboration by West Yorkshire Combined Authority with Network Rail and Northern Rail.
How is this work funded and how much will it cost?
The estimated cost for the project is £10.1m.
Subject to a successful business case, this project will be delivered through funding provided to the Combined Authority by HM Government. The funding for this scheme is known as capital funding; this means it can only be spent on schemes to deliver new or improved infrastructure.
Will the works affect my train service?
The current bridge will remain in place while there is construction of the new bridge. We do not anticipate any impact to your train service.
How will I access each platform during construction?
The current bridge will remain in place while there is construction of the new bridge. Platforms will be accessible via Station Road and Netherfield Road.
Why is the bridge being moved?
We are proposing to relocate the bridge further along the platform. This new position gives us the space to install a wider, modern bridge that meets current accessibility and safety standards.
What is happening with the old bridge?
The existing bridge will remain in place during construction of the new bridge to ensure continued access. Decisions about the future of the existing bridge will be made later in the project once design and safety assessments are complete.
Will there be any changes to the station car park?
At this stage, it is possible that changes may be required to the car park; however, further design work is needed before this can be confirmed. Additional assessment will be undertaken to understand whether any parking spaces may be affected or if the layout can be changed to keep the same number of spaces.
Will there be movement of any station furniture (for example bike storage)?
Is it possible that some platform furniture (such as seating, signage, bike storage) may need to be moved as part of the scheme. Any changes would be carefully considered during the detailed design stage to ensure passenger comfort, safety and accessibility are maintained or improved. No final decisions have been made at this stage, and further information will be shared as the design develops.
