When will the work start on site?

The current aim is to be start works by April 2020, however this is subject to approval from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s assurance process and Kirklees Council’s Cabinet.

Who is paying for the improvements?

This scheme is funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF).

Can the money be spent on other projects?

The money has been allocated to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority from Central Government for this Better Connected Stations scheme. The funding cannot be spent on other schemes.

When will you have the detailed design?

We will develop a detailed design as part of the Full Business Case submission to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The current forecast date for this is December 2019, though this is subject to change.

Will there be any changes to on-street parking?

There is a proposal to remove a parking layby on Upperhead Row to make more space for pedestrians. We are also proposing to rearrange some on street parking on Dundas Street.

Will there be changes to taxi ranks?

To allow better pedestrian footways and road crossings we are proposing to relocate some taxi spaces from Upperhead Row to Dundas Street.

Will any roadworks be carried out at night and what will you do to minimise any impact on residents?

We will plan the details for the site work on the scheme closer to start date. If we need to work on an evening, we will work with residents and businesses to minimise disruption.

Does the Council need planning permission to do this work?

We do not anticipate that formal planning permission / consent will be required for this scheme.

Will existing bus stops be affected?

We will improve the bus shelters on as part of this scheme.

Will my comments be considered, or have decisions already been made?

We are engaging on this scheme to get opinions from the public. All reasonable feedback will be analysed and taken into consideration during detailed design.
