The first phase of public engagement for the West Bradford Junctions Improvement Scheme took place from 18 February - 29 March 2019. A report has been produced that includes all the comments received during the phase 1 engagement period (18 February – 29 March 2019). The report can be found here.

Great Horton Road / Horton Grange Road (Phase 2A & 3A)

The proposals include improvements to:

  • Constructing a new road between Horton Park Avenue and Cecil Avenue junction and All Saints Road and Dirkhill Road junction with give way junctions at each end.
  • Installing traffic lights at the Great Horton Road and Horton Park Avenue junction.
  • Adding an additional lane on Great Horton Road towards Bradford on the approach to Great Horton Road/Horton Grange Road junction.
  • Introducing a one way traffic lane southbound on All Saints Road, towards Turner Place.
  • Preventing right turns from Great Horton Road into All Saints Road.

Toller Lane / Whetley Hill (Phase 2B)

The proposals include improvements to:

  • Providing two lanes on the A6177 on the approach to the junction.
  • Introducing dedicated left turn lanes from the A6177 to Toller Lane and Whetley Hill.
  • Providing two lanes in both directions on Toller Lane from the Carlisle Road junction to the dual carriageway.
  • Widening of the approaches to the A6177 on Toller Lane and Whetley Hill to provide a right turn lane.

Thornton Road / Cemetery Road (Phase 2C)

The proposals include improvements to:

  • Providing a right turn lane on Thornton Road towards Cemetery Road.
  • Introducing two lanes on Thornton Road westbound towards the Cemetery Road junction.
  • Providing two lanes on Allerton Road to the Cemetery Road junction.
  • Introducing two lanes on Cemetery Road through to Allerton Road towards Bradford Girls Grammar.

Details of the public engagement:

Public engagement on the Thornton Road / Cemetery Road junction has been deferred until May 2022 due to additional optioneering and design work as well as further transport modelling necessary to accommodate the possibility of a cycle lane across the junction funded via the Transforming Cities Fund.
