We are working in partnership with the region’s five Local Authorities (Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield) to develop a West Yorkshire integrated regional transport model. This will help inform future transport initiatives in the region and enable us to deliver an integrated and inclusive transport network developed by people in West Yorkshire, for people in West Yorkshire.

We are committed to making sustainable transport work for West Yorkshire, to connect more people with jobs, training and education opportunities, and to tackling the climate emergency on our way to becoming a net-zero carbon economy by 2038.

More carbon is emitted by transport than any other sector of the economy, with over 90% of transport emissions coming from cars and vans. Enabling more journeys by public transport will be integral to us achieving our ambition to tackle the climate emergency and improve the quality of our air.

Why are we doing surveys?

To help support the development of a West Yorkshire integrated regional transport model, we are looking at how people travel around the region. This will help us understand travel demands and inform wider transport policy and future transport initiatives in the region.

To help us understand transport patterns and develop a transport model, traffic and public transport data will be collected across West Yorkshire through surveys. The surveys will also help to capture any changing travel patterns since the COVID-19 pandemic.

About the surveys

The surveys will consist of highways surveys which will include traffic counts, car park surveys, roadside interviews and park and ride surveys. Additionally, there will be public transport surveys at rail stations and bus stops across West Yorkshire.

The survey programme will run between March – May 2023.
