We are now analysing your responses and the results will inform our upcoming Serious Violence Strategy.
#TellTracy about serious violence
Tracy Brabin, the Mayor of West Yorkshire, has pledged to make serious violence a priority and deliver on the government’s mission of halving knife crime in a decade. The spotlight on serious violence in the new Police and Crime Plan is part of the journey to make this a reality, our consultation is now open until Tuesday 30 September 2025.
When we consulted on the Police and Crime Plan during 2024, we received strong support for the spotlight on serious violence, with many highlighting its wide-ranging impact on victims, families, and communities. Young people — particularly those in schools, colleges, and universities — also identified serious violence as a major concern. Parents raised issues around child vulnerability and criminal exploitation, with several sharing personal experiences. Many participants also discussed the connection between organised crime and issues such as drug-related offences, knife crime, and gun violence.
We are now launching our consultation on serious violence. This will inform West Yorkshire’s Serious Violence Strategy and will be co-produced with our partners and affected communities. We want to hear your views on Serious Violence to help shape West Yorkshire’s future.
Survey for children and young people
We also have a plain text and pictorial versions designed for children and young people but which can also be completed by anyone of any age who would like to tell us their opinions. These printable surveys are designed to support parents, carers, guardians, and organisations working with children in helping young people take part in this consultation and ensure their voices are heard. There is a pictorial version which may be more suitable for younger children available to download here. The plain text version of the children’s survey, which may be better suited to older children, is available to download here.
