What is the purpose of the interactive map?

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority and our partners have launched an interactive map to help us understand which areas could be improved to help the public travel more easily by bike or on foot, and to provide more space to travel safely and in a socially distant way.

What type of issues can I raise on the map?

We are asking for people are being asked to highlight issues such as:

    • Feels unsafe cycling here

    • Feels unsafe walking here

    • Difficult/unsafe to cross

    • Need space for queuing at bus stops

    • Need space for queuing outside shops

    • Need a walking route here

    • Need a cycling route here

    • Accessibility issue

    • Important destination

    • Lack of cycle parking

    • Other

Can I suggest ways that these issues can be addressed?

We are asking for people to pick from the following potential measures, that could be used to overcome these issues:

    • Lower traffic speeds

    • Wider pavements

    • More space for queuing

    • Fewer obstructions on pavement (e.g. cars parked, bins etc)

    • Improved crossings

    • Create safe space for cycling

    • Maintenance needed to walking route

    • Maintenance needed to cycling route

    • Other

How will my feedback be used?

A number of measures to provide more space for people to travel in a more socially distant way are already underway in parts of West Yorkshire and further measures will be confirmed and delivered in the coming weeks.

Since funding and resources are limited, the Combined Authority and our partners will have to prioritise action on those issues and locations where improvements are most needed. By submitting your feedback via our interactive map, you will be helping us to make the best decisions we can.

    What measures will be delivered?

A number of measures to provide more space for people to travel in a more socially distant way have already started to be implemented in West Yorkshire, and further measures will be confirmed and delivered in the coming weeks.

However, funding and resources are limited so West Yorkshire authorities will have to prioritise action on those issues and locations where improvements are most needed. By submitting your feedback via our interactive map, you will be helping us to make the best decisions we can.

Is there funding available to deliver these measures?

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority, along with our partner councils, is submitting a proposal to the Department for Transport (DfT) to secure funding from the recently announced Emergency Active Travel fund (click here for more information [external link - opens in a new window]). A programme will be developed using the comments provided through the interactive map as well as other intelligence.

This funding will be limited, so the information you provide will help us make the best possible decisions about where to spend this.

What will the information I provide be used for?

All information you provide will only be used in the manner described in our privacy policy which can be downloaded by clicking here. Please note, your screen name will be publicly visible on the map. If you have previously registered to Your Voice and wish to change your screen name, please do so via the 'Profile' section in the drop down list, found on the top right hand corner of the page.

What about future planning of cycling and walking schemes? Will these comments be considered for the development of future schemes?

Yes. The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is working with our partner councils to develop Local Walking and Cycling Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs). These set out priorities for improving walking and cycling infrastructure within individual council areas. Comments on the map should focus measures needed in the near future but will also be used to inform future schemes such as the LCWIPs. For more information these plans, please click here [external link - opens in a new window].
