Police and Crime Plan 2024-2028
This consultation is a way for you to use your voice and help shape my new Police and Crime Plan.
Once completed the plan will set out my policing priorities and the direction of West Yorkshire Police over the next four years.
When I was re-elected as Mayor this May I promised a long-term strategy to deal with serious violence. Across the country knife crime has risen by 2% in the last year, with homicides increasing by 5%. While knife crime has decreased by over 10% in West Yorkshire since 2019, these national increases are now reflected here. Every life lost to violent crime is one too many, which is why we are determined to tackle this as a matter of urgency.
As part of this Police and Crime Plan consultation we want to ask you about what serious violence looks like in your area so that we can ensure that your voice is heard. We will make West Yorkshire a safer region for all.
I also pledged to continue my work to eradicate violence against women and girls and have established a women’s safety unit with West Yorkshire Police, working alongside partners to embed the recommendations of the men and boys report to ensure that everyone feels West Yorkshire is safe, just and inclusive.
We will work with the government as they reinvigorate neighbourhood policing with 13,000 more police/community support officers nationally and I will continue to hold the chief constable to account ensuring he focuses on the issues that matter most to you.
Using my convening powers, I will continue to bring together local criminal justice partners to ensure a joint understanding of the challenges we face and how we can introduce vital services for our young people to ensure they are seen and heard.
Please can I urge you to complete this survey and tell us how my new Police and Crime Plan can reflect your priorities and bring about lasting change in West Yorkshire.
Thank you.
Tracy Brabin
Mayor of West Yorkshire
