What do the works consist of?
Works will consist of a high quality passenger waiting facility, improvements to the area around the station building, changes to the car park layout and refurbishment of the subway.
When are works likely to start?
Construction work is now due to start around autumn 2019 and complete during spring 2020.
What are the total costs for the works?
The costs of the
works are estimated to be £2.8 million and is to be funded (subject to approval) through the West Yorkshire
Plus Transport Fund.
How long will the rail station car park be closed for during the construction works?
It is estimated that
the car park will be closed for five months whilst the car park is remodelled.
Will alternative car parking arrangements be made available during the construction works of the rail station car park?
Yes it has been agreed with WMDC that Castlefields car park can be utilised during the works.
Will the rail station permit holders be able to park free of charge at Castlefields Car Park during the construction works?
Yes. This has
been agreed with WMDC. The same tariffs will apply at Castlefields Car Park as
the rail station for non-permit holders.
Is it intention to staff Castleford Rail Station?
Will the works affect my train service?
No, the works will not
affect the running of the trains
Is it the intention to bring platform two back into use as part of this project?
Works associated with
platform two are not within the scope of the project although it is anticipated that the
area will undergo a general tidy up prior to the scheme being completed
Will toilets be provided as part of the improvements?
A toilet for the disabled is planned for the new station building, but this will not be accessible to the general public. Access will be controlled via a radar key system.
Will there be CCTV in the subway?
Yes, CCTV will be installed in the subway.
