Improve air quality by reducing emissions
- Part 1: We have added signals to the existing crossing points on Black Road to make it easier to cross the road and access the bus stop
- Part 3: We have expanded the lane changes on the Doncaster Road Agbrigg junction. This now includes a right only turn going eastbound
- Part 4: We have removed the proposals for a shared use path on Doncaster Road between the new proposed crossing and Denmark Street
- In our previous consultation, you told us you had concerns about the low traffic cycling plan. Out of consideration for local residents, we have removed this part of the proposals

Who is responsible for delivering the scheme?
The scheme is being delivered by Wakefield Council in partnership with West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
What happened in the last consultation?
In June and July 2021, we asked you for your feedback on earlier designs for this project. We ran a public consultation and carried out stakeholder engagement.
164 people completed our public survey. Nine out of ten respondents said they agreed that investment to improve transport is needed in the area. Generally, you said you agreed with the proposals. You also made suggestions for some changes and raised some concerns.
Your feedback has helped to shape the scheme designs. We now have final designs which we would like to hear your feedback on.
How have the designs changed since the last consultation?
Since the last round of consultation, we have listened to your feedback and made changes to our plans.
We have made these changes:
Now, we want to hear what you think about our final designs.
Will there be any disruption for access to the area during construction?
Once we have appointed a contractor, we will work closely with them to make that the impact of construction will be as small as possible. However, there will be some disruption from road works. We will work closely with businesses and residents to ensure all works are done with the minimum possible impact.
Funding
What is the total cost of the scheme?
The budget for A638 Doncaster Road in Wakefield is £6.30 million.
Can the money be spent on other things? (e.g. bus services, other projects)
This scheme has funding allocated to it as part of the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund. The money that has been awarded to us can only be spent on the A638 Doncaster Road project. This means that the funding cannot be reallocated to be spent elsewhere, and cannot be used to support local authorities’ normal operating expenses.
