Calderdale Council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority are delivering a series of projects to improve the A629 from Halifax to Huddersfield. The Calder and Hebble Junction project is the second major project to be delivered as part of the programme, following on from the A629 Salterhebble to Shaw Hill project.
The improvement plans for this project focus on the key areas of Huddersfield Road, Stainland Road and Wakefield Road.
We will deliver a new link road between Huddersfield Road and Stainland Road via a bridge spanning the Calder and Hebble Navigation with a roundabout on Stainland Road. This project will also include a full width footway and cycle path, a new northbound bus lane on Stainland Road and demolition of the derelict Punch Bowl Pub.
The project aims to improve employment opportunities in the borough and beyond through reduced congestion and improved journey times along the A629 corridor. The benefits of the investment include improved walking, cycling and public transport access, improved air quality and safer journeys, particularly for cyclists and pedestrians.
As the project works towards the development of the full business case, we are now looking to engage with the public and other interested parties to understand their views on the journey and our improvement plan.
