Leeds Transport Hubs and Walking & Cycling Schemes

In 2016 we started a conversation with people who live and work in Leeds about the future of transport in the city. We had more than 8,000 responses, with a clear message that you want to see improvements to public transport. You told us what your issues are and what you would like us to change.
Your views helped us shape the vision for the city’s transport strategy, which led to the development of the Connecting Leeds vision. Visit www.leeds.gov.uk/connectingleeds (opens in a new tab) for more information.
Planned transport improvements include new rail stations, bus lanes and other infrastructure to speed up bus travel, better provision for cyclists and pedestrians, new park and ride facilities, improved travel information etc.
The Leeds Transport Conversation highlighted the importance of local centres and links between neighbouring communities. At the same time it identified barriers posed by poor public transport links between adjacent communities and fragmentation by highly trafficked roads. This feedback has been used to develop the Transport Hubs and Walking and Cycling Package which is being developed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority in partnership with Leeds City Council.
The objectives of this package are: •To increase patronage on public transport •To provide attractive, safe and direct pedestrian and cycle routes to transport interchanges •To improve air quality and environmental impacts in the district
Transport Hubs Transport Hubs will create new, or upgrade existing, facilities to improve the waiting environment and travel information offer at certain locations. The transport hubs which are currently being developed are:
Walking and Cycling Schemes Walking and Cycling Schemes will enhance connections within and between other public transport hubs and communities by improving walking and cycling links.
Increasing the number of people choosing to travel by bicycle and on foot can improve air quality, reduce costly congestion on our roads and provide better access to jobs and training opportunities. The walking and cycling schemes which are being developed are:

Next steps
The feedback you give to us through this engagement will be reviewed and incorporated wherever possible into the detailed design and construction of the schemes. Subject to funding approval, construction will take place in 2020.
